American International Group (AIG), the embattled insurance lender, paid 73 executives bonuses of $1 million or more, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (D) said Tuesday.
AIG has come under fire for doling out $165 million in bonuses, which it has said were intended to retain its employees, after receiving $170 billion in taxpayer funding government bailout funds.
Cuomo, who has subpoenaed the names of who received AIG bonuses, wrote a letter to House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) detailing his offices findings.
The top seven bonus recipients were given $4 million each and 22 employees received bonuses $2 million or more.
