Poll: Obama’s Had Little Impact on Improving World Standing So Far

President Obama campaigned last year on restoring America’s image around the world.

But, according to a new Gallup Poll, Americans don’t think his election alone has had much of an effect on it. Just 32 percent of respondents were satisfied with the U.S.’s position in the world, which is up only 2 percent from last year. Similarly, 45 percent said they think the U.S. rates favorably in the eyes of the world, another 2 percent jump from a year ago.

To be fair, Americans think Obama is held in higher esteem than President George W. Bush, with 67 percent saying they think world leaders respect the president, compared to just 24 percent last year.

The poll was conducted Feb. 9 through Feb. 12. There is a margin of error on the poll of +/- 3 percentage points.
