Clinton Says She Won’t Comment on Cabinet Post

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), reportedly under consideration to become Secretary of State, began a speech on Friday by saying that she wouldn’t address speculation about President-elect Barack Obama’s administration.

Clinton was at a New York Public Transportation Association event in Albany, N.Y., to call for greater investment in the country’s transportation infrastructure. But before beginning her prepared speech, she acknowledged the buzz about her possible appointment.

Here’s the start of her remarks:

Thank you very, very much. And I have to start by saying I’m very happy there is so much press attention and interest in transit.

(LAUGHTER) Especially guesses about my own. But in the off chance that you’re not here for this important issue and are here for some other reason, let me just say that I’m not going to speculate or address anything about the president-elect’s incoming administration. And I’m going to respect his process. And any inquiries should be directed to his transition team.

Because I am here for what I think is one of the key issues that will have to be addressed by the incoming administration…
