Souder Grills Soros on Drug Philanthropy

Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) took an opportunity to excoriate billionaire George Soros at a House hearing Thursday on hedge funds, but not for financial impropriety.

“I understand this is a financial hearing but Mr. Soros, I just want to say that I’ve had deep disagreements with the heroine needle exchange program and your backdoor legalization of marijuana,” Souder said. “Your intervention in the drug area has been appalling. I hope you reevaluate where you put your money.”

Soros appeared today before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to discuss the regulation of hedge funds.

Souder has struck a reputation for being tough on drugs during his career in the House, where he has sponsored legislation to strip eligibility for financial aid from college students who have been convicted of drug-related offenses.
