Hoyer: Budget and Energy Will Move This Year
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) indicated Congress will act on the two biggest priorities in President Obama’s two top priorities — long-term budgetary stability and energy efficiency — this year.
Hoyer called items like healthcare, tied to the long-term health of the economy, as well addressing energy and the environmental “priority items that we want to move this year” during a Thursday morning during an appearance on “Morning Joe.”
“We’re going to have to take the medicine here,” Hoyer said of the overall difficult decisions facing the country.
“I think the president in his speech Tuesday night was pretty clear that we’re not going to tolerate giving money to people who waste it,” Hoyer said of Obama’s speech, and more recent reports of bailed-out firms having wasted taxpayer money.
“We have not seen what we wanted to see,” he added. “Hopefully, Secretary Geithner and the Congress see to it that responsibility is attendant to getting assistance.”
