NY Post Sparks Controversy with Chimp Cartoon

This Sean Delonas New York Post cartoon is certainly setting the blogosphere ablaze today. Several are saying that the cartoon implies that the economic stimulus package that President Barack Obama signed into law yesterday was authored by a chimp.

So it is no surprise, then, that the Post is being accused of racism. The New York daily issued a response, saying it was a parody of the recent chimpanzee attack in Connecticut. Here is what Col Allan, editor in chief of the Post, had to say about it, per the Huffington Post:

“The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington’s efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist.”

Allan is referring to Sharpton issuing statement that blasts the cartoon.

So did the Post and Delonas go to far? What do you think?
