N.Y. Gov. Paterson Wants Another Sen. Schumer

New York Gov David Paterson (D), tasked with appointing his state’s next senator, said that he’d wants to have Sen. Charles Schumer (D) fill it, reports PolitickerNY.

“He doesn’t need another office, he doesn’t need any additional staffing, he does the work of two,” Paterson said, let Charles do it,” Paterson said.

Paterson, at a news conference in Albany, then introduced Schumer as “New York’s first and second senator.”

Though Paterson’s remarks drew laughs, Schumer didn’t think his idea was very realistic.

“David, I thought you were my friend,” Schumer said. “We have enough to do. We do need another senator.”

Paterson will appoint someone to fill the seat of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D), who is expected to be confirmed as secretary of State.
