U.S. Atty.: Conduct Would Make Lincoln Roll in Grave

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said that conduct by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) “would make Lincoln roll over in his grave.”

Fitzgerald made the remark during a news conference in reference to alleged attempts by the governor to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Obama. Blagojevich and his chief of staff were arrested on corruption charges Tuesday.

Fitzgerald added that the Blagojevich’s conduct is “appalling.” He noted that Obama isn’t implicated to any of the charges that the governor or his aide, John Harris, face. The prosecutor also said that the investigation relied on wiretaps of Blagojevich’s conversations.
