Cantor: GOP Has Lacked Relevancy to Voters

Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the Republican Party has lost the ability to be “relevant” to voters Monday in an interview.

“Where we have really fallen down is, we have lacked the ability to be relevant to people’s lives,” Cantor told the Washington Times. “Let’s set aside the last eight years, and our falling down in living up to expectations of what we said we were going to do.”

Cantor is currently running for the number two position of House Minority Whip in the next Congress, a position which he is expected to easily secure.

“I also believe, though, that the country is not only poised, it is desperate for us to use those principles to fashion solutions to everyday challenges,” Cantor added, “and I believe that this country will accept that because we’re not a country that is all about big-government solutions, and I think that’s where the other side goes.”

Cantor also told the Times the GOP should ” be very wise about the battles we fight” in the coming Congress.
