Leahy, A Target in 2001 Anthrax Attacks, To Get Personal FBI Briefing
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who was targeted in the 2001 anthrax letters, is receiving a personal briefing Thursday afternoon from FBI Director Robert Mueller about the U.S. government’s case against Army scientist Bruce Ivins.
Mueller is visiting Leahy in Vermont for the personal briefing, a day after the FBI held a news conference to lay out its case against Ivins, who committed suicide last week. A briefing was also held in the Senate for congressional staffers. FBI officials announced they are closing the case and believe Ivins was the only person responsible for the anthrax attacks.
Leahy spokesman David Carle said Leahy does not plan to issue any statement about Thursday’s meeting.
