Texas Dem Booster Who Paid Edwards’s Mistress Dies

Fred Baron, the Democratic Party donor who helped fund Democrats in Texas and John Edwards’s presidential campaign, died Thursday.

Baron, who was 61, had been fighting cancer.

A tort lawyer, Baron helped rejuvenate the Texas Democratic Party starting the 1970s when it had started to struggle, according to the Dallas Morning News.

More recently, Baron acknowledged last summer to sending payments to Edwards’s mistress and former campaign worker, Rielle Hunter.
