Common-Sense Amendments Needed in Dems Budget Plan (Sen. Judd Gregg)

This Democratic budget, which comes on the heels of last year’s massive tax increase and spending spree, continues to spell bad news for American taxpayers. Once again, the majority is using their budgeting authority to fund more big government bureaucracy, instead of allowing families to make more of their own fiscal choices.

We are again seeing a record tax increase, which will saddle working families, seniors, and low-income workers with a greater tax burden and fewer dollars in their household budget. Small businesses, the engine of growth in our economy, will be hit hard, too. In this budget, spending goes up dramatically, the debt continues to mushroom, and unchecked growth in entitlement spending is ignored. These costs will be passed along to our children and grandchildren, who will be forced to foot the bill for such reckless fiscal mismanagement.

Given the slowing of the economy over the past year, I can only hope that the majority party will be open to some common-sense amendments to their plan, instead of forging ahead with another budget that will only serve to drag the economy down further.
