Finally, to suggest that either this Committee or I are not supportive of whistleblower protections is just plain wrong. Throughout my congressional career, my staff and I have worked with credible whistleblowers in creating meaningful reforms to address and prevent waste, fraud and abuse. Additionally, both Ranking Member Joe Barton and I vigorously supported the passage of the Government Reform Committee’s H.R. 985, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2007 – a bill that established a comprehensive and consistent government-wide approach on this issue.

I am proud of the collaborative effort that resulted in the House consumer safety legislation and I look forward to working with the Senate to complete the process as quickly as possible.
