Venezuelans Stood Up for Freedom, Said No to Chavez (Rep. Connie Mack)
On Sunday, Venezuelans stood up for freedom and rejected President Hugo Chavez’s efforts to further roll back the constitution.
Ever since he came to power in 1998, Chavez has systematically dismantled the freedom and security of the Venezuelan people. With Sunday’s vote, the Venezuelan people made it clear that they reject his Bolivarian Revolution and despise his assaults on freedom and free markets.
Although we celebrate Sunday’s positive results, Chavez still has five years left of his presidential term. Five years is a long window for him to continue to make mischief in Venezuela and around the world. The United States and its allies around the world must continue to keep a watchful eye on Hugo Chavez and help the people of Venezuela as they fight for freedom and democracy.
