Add Venezuela to List of State Sponsors of Terrorism (Rep. Connie Mack)

By mobilizing troops and tanks to Venezuela’s Colombian border, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his ally in Ecuador, President Rafael Correa, have single-handedly disrupted the stability and security of Latin America.  What’s more disturbing is Chavez’s ties to, and his continued support of, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), an internationally-recognized terrorist organization.

Chavez has long supported the FARC, giving them financial aid, a safe haven in Venezuela, and publicly legitimatizing their illegal organization.  The discovery of a laptop purportedly containing information linking Chavez to the FARC confirms what we’ve known for years.

That’s why I sent a letter to President Bush this afternoon urging him to add Venezuela to the official state sponsors of terrorism list.  Currently, Venezuela is listed as “not fully cooperating
