We Can’t Support A Government That Pardons Murderers

Today I wrote to U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad to express my serious concerns over news reports that Iraqi leaders may grant amnesty to insurgents who have killed American men and women. I find it shocking that we find ourselves in a situation where the U.S. is providing significant military, economic and diplomatic support to a government that may pardon the murder of our Americans in uniform. I also worry that such discussion will encourage even more attacks on our troops. I am hopeful that Ambassador Khalilzad will use his influence in Iraq to discourage further talk of amnesty for those who murder our troops.
