Tuesday: Highway bill, veteran health
The Senate is expected to start its work on a long-term highway bill on Tuesday, taking a procedural vote on a House-passed shell bill.
Senators are expected to take a vote at 2:15 p.m. on ending debate on a motion to proceed to the House bill that the Senate will use as its vehicle for its long-term highway bill.
{mosads}Lawmakers have yet to unveil the details of their proposal, after the House passed a short-term bill earlier this month.
But, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Monday during a speech in Kentucky that “there’s a good chance that by tomorrow, you will have a McConnell-Boxer multiyear highway bill on the floor of the Senate.”
Senators are also expected to recess between 12:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m for weekly party lunches.
Meanwhile, House lawmakers are expected to vote on a trio of non-controversial bills, including one proposal that aims to bolster public information about Department of Veterans Affairs’ hospitals across the country.
Votes in the House are expected at 6:30 p.m.
