GOP senator to propose ‘If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It’ Act
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said Friday that he would propose legislation next week that lets people keep their health insurance if they like it — a key promise President Obama made about ObamaCare that has not been kept.
“That promise has been broken,” Johnson said Friday. “More than a million Americans have been notified that the plans they like with the coverage they have chosen have been canceled. Millions more Americans will have the plans of their choice canceled in months to come.”
{mosads}Johnson says he’ll name his bill the “If You Like Your Health Plan, You Can Keep It” Act, lifting from Obama’s repeated assertions that people with insurance would be able to keep their doctor and their healthcare plan under ObamaCare.
“If you like your healthcare plan, you’ll be able to keep your healthcare plan,” Obama said as he pitched the bill that became law in 2010.
Johnson said he hopes members of both parties will support the bill to ensure Obama’s promise is kept.
His bill was announced as insurance companies continued to announce that they would cancel their health plans because they are not compatible with the requirements of ObamaCare. Companies in California, Florida, New Jersey and elsewhere have announced they would have to cancel hundreds of thousands of non-qualifying health plans.
“Americans want the freedom to choose their own plans and want to be in control of their own health care,” Johnson said today. “They don’t want ObamaCare destroying what they have and what they like.”
