Vitter demands Congress reveal which staffers are using ObamaCare

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) this week proposed new legislation that would require members of Congress to make public which of their staffers are enrolling in insurance through ObamaCare.

According to Vitter, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has told members of Congress that they must split their staff into “official” and “unofficial” members. Only “official” staffers will be have to buy health insurance under the ObamaCare exchanges.

{mosads}But Vitter said this rule is a loophole that will let members keep some of their staff out of the exchange, when the law says all staffers must use it.

His “Show Your Exemption Act,” S. 1629, would require members to reveal which staffers are designated as official.

“For members to use this illegal loophole so that some staff stay off the exchanges altogether is outrageous,” Vitter said Thursday. “It flies in the face of the exact language of ObamaCare.

“If these staffers aren’t ‘official,’ then the taxpayer shouldn’t pay for their salaries or office support or anything else.”

Vitter said he has made all of his staff “official” and subject to ObamaCare. He also noted that both the House and Senate were required to designate “official” staff by the end of October.
