House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Friday that the House will consider a Republican bill this March to eliminate incentives in ObamaCare that lead people to work just 30 hours a week.
The Affordable Care Act’s definition of full-time as a 30-hour workweek is the top item in a letter Cantor wrote to House Republicans outlining the caucus’s near-term legislative agenda.
{mosads}The majority leader encouraged members to compile personal testimonies from people in their districts who have been negatively affected by the law so the party could highlight these stories in the coming weeks.
ObamaCare requires employers to offer health plans to workers if they have 50 or more full-time employees, and defines full-time as anyone working 30 or more hours a week.
Republicans argue that this incentivizes companies to limit employee hours to 29 or fewer to maintain a staff of fewer than 50 full-time workers.
Cantor said the House would consider a bill proposed by Rep. Todd Young (R-Ind.), The Save American Workers Act, that moved through the House Ways and Means Committee along partisan lines earlier this month.
The memo made no mention of the House taking up a GOP alternative to the healthcare law in the coming months. Cantor has been charged with putting together a Republican proposal that leaders have said will get a vote later this year.
