Poe blamed the Obama administration for not working hard enough to find the people involved in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack, even though the suspects have since given media interviews.
{mosads}”It’s ironic, the greatest power that has ever existed, with all our vast resources of military, CIA intelligence, the NSA intelligence, the FBI, that we can’t capture some killers who killed Americans in Benghazi, Libya, when the media can go and talk to them and have them on television, and we can’t even find them, capture and bring them back to justice?” he asked.
“The president is concerned about Syrians — Syrians being killed by Syrians,” he added. “I wish he was just as concerned about Americans being murdered by terrorists in Benghazi, Libya.”
Poe’s bill would require the State Department to report to Congress on whether the Libyan faction of Ansar al-Sharia should be designated as a terrorist entity. Late last year, State concluded that this group is al Qaeda operating under another name in the Arabian Peninsula, but State has not made a similar determination for the group in Libya.
The bill also includes a sense of congressional resolution saying the Libyan faction of the group should be designated as a terrorist entity.
Poe said on the House floor Wednesday that it is clear this group is responsible for the attack that killed four U.S. officials, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.
“We know that Ansar al-Shari’a was involved,” Poe said. “I said that the day after this murder occurred.”
