GOP rep: O-Care creates data security threat

Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) said she was concerned about the lack of data security with ObamaCare.

“Data security is something we must take very seriously in the Internet age,” Black said on Wednesday. “This is one of the reasons I have been so outspoken and concerned with the lack of data security surrounding the federal ObamaCare exchange that Tennesseans are using to sign up for health insurance.”

{mosads}Black’s comments came after reports that the information of more than 60,000 Tennessee state employees had been compromised when accessing their healthcare information from a vendor the state uses as part of its exchange. 

The local data breach was reported, but Black said it is important that the federal government be obligated to disclose when personal data is compromised.

“Under current laws, the federal government is under no obligation to notify Tennesseans if their personal information is stolen because of a data breach on healthcare.gov,” Black said. “This is unacceptable and why I worked with my colleagues in the House to pass legislation to address this that sadly is waiting for a vote in the Democrat controlled Senate.”

Black has been an ardent critic of the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare.
