Bill would prevent schools from physically restraining students

Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) has introduced legislation to restrict schools from using physical restraint or seclusion to punish students for bad behavior.

Beyer said the measure would prevent schools from adopting abusive practices.

{mosads}”It is our responsibility to make sure all children are safe and protected at school. Too often dangerous and abusive techniques are used to discipline our students, disproportionately subjecting minority and disabled students to inappropriate seclusion and restraint in the classroom,” Beyer said in a statement.

The bill, which is the first Beyer introduced in his freshman term in Congress, currently has 25 cosponsors.
