Washington State members monitoring bridge collapse

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) said Thursday night that she was traveling to the scene.

{mosads}”This evening, as I am urgently traveling to the scene from Washington, D.C., my staff is currently at the Skagit County Emergency Operations Center to help in coordination with federal, state and local officials,” she said. “My staff and I are also in communication with the NTSB as they send a team to investigate and assist.”

“As emergency response efforts continue and inspection crews investigate the cause of the shocking collapse of this bridge, I stand ready to assist in any way I can.”

Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) said he is monitoring the situation, and added that his office staff “stands ready to assist emergency responders and local and state officials.”

The bridge collapse is likely to renew calls from Democrats in particular to boost federal infrastructure funds. Democrats have repeatedly called on House Republican leaders to increase funding to repair bridges and update other infrastructure across the country as part of a jobs bill.
