Tuesday: Guns, TSA and loose change
The House meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, and then in the afternoon to consider up to 10 suspension bills.
One of these, H.R. 3626, would extend the Undetectable Firearms Act for another 10 years. This law prohibits any commerce in firearms that don’t contain enough metal to be picked up by a metal detector.
{mosads}House Republicans had originally scheduled floor action on this bill Monday, but delayed it until Tuesday.
Two others are aimed at reforming the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
One is the Aviation Security Stakeholder Participation Act, H.R. 1204. This bill would establish an Aviation Security Advisory Committee, which the TSA would consult when devising security policies.
The committee would include members across all business areas of aviation, including passenger and cargo carriers, airport operators and aircraft manufacturers.
The second TSA bill is the Transportation Acquisition Security Reform Act, H.R. 2719. This bill would require TSA to set up a new, strategic framework for its technology purchases.
Regarding loose change, another bill up today would require TSA to take all the unclaimed money it finds at airport security checkpoints, and spend it on airport lounges for members of the military and their families. This is the TSA Loose Change At, H.R. 1095.
Aside from these bills, the House will consider six other land use bills today:
— H.R. 255, amending the Provo River Project Transfer Act to clarify descriptions of certain properties,
— H.R. 2388, authorizing the Secretary of the Interior to put land in El Dorado County, California, into trust to benefit the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians,
— H.R. 1963, the Bureau of Reclamation Conduit Hydropower Development Equity and Jobs Act,
— H.R. 1241, facilitating a land exchange involving National Forest System lands in the Inyo National Forest in California,
— H.R. 1846, amending the law establishing the Lower East Side Tenement National Historic Site, and
— H.R. 2650, the Fond du Lack Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Non-Intercourse Act.
