The House has a tall agenda on Tuesday as it takes up five bills to combat human trafficking, the water resources conference report and the national defense authorization.
The bills regarding human trafficking would, among other provisions, require advance notice of intended travel by registered child-sex offenders outside the U.S. to the country of destination, create a penalty for individuals who knowingly sell advertising that offers commercial sex acts violating federal prohibitions against sex trafficking, and require state foster plans to establish policies for screening children for sex trafficking.
{mosads}A resolution to condemn the abduction of the Nigerian schoolgirls by extremist group Boko Haram is also expected to hit the floor at the same time.
The House is further expected to begin general debate of the 2015 national defense authorization and possibly seven amendments. Further amendment consideration will come Wednesday.
The $8.2 billion water resources conference report will be considered under an expedited process requiring a two-thirds majority. But conservative group Heritage Action urged members to vote against the legislation, which could split Republicans.
Meanwhile, the Senate will convene at 10 a.m. and recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for the weekly caucus luncheons.
Later in the afternoon, it will vote at 5:30 p.m. to confirm Gregg Costa to serve as a U.S. circuit judge for the fifth circuit and invoke cloture on the nomination of Stanley Fischer to be a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
