Wednesday: Defense bill, Planned Parenthood
The Senate will take a final vote on an annual defense bill despite a looming veto threat from the White House.
Senators are expected to vote at 2 p.m. on the $612-billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), after the legislation overcame a procedural on Tuesday with the support of almost two dozen Democrats.
{mosads}The administration, along with Democratic leadership in Congress, opposes the legislation because of an extra $38 billion included in war funding. They argue the spending is meant to help the Pentagon avoid congressionally-mandated spending caps.
Meanwhile, the House on Wednesday is expected to take up two pieces of legislation, including a proposal that would set up a select committee to oversee investigations into abortion and fetal tissue-related practices. The push for a new committee comes in the wake of a string of controversial videos about Planned Parenthood.
Votes in the House are expected between 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., as well as between 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.
