Monday: Short-term highway bill, nomination

The House could consider a short-term highway bill on Monday, ahead of a deadline to avoid a gap in federal infrastructure funding.

House and Senate lawmakers have been working out differences between their long-term proposals, with a final version expected to be rolled out this week.

{mosads}But with lawmakers facing a strict timeline ahead of the week-long Thanksgiving recess, House members could also take up another short-term measure if it looks like there won’t be enough time to pass the compromise legislation.

Lawmakers have until Nov. 20 to pass either a long-term bill or another short-term extension.

The House is also expected to take votes on more than a dozen pieces of legislation under suspension of the rules. Votes in the House aren’t scheduled until 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Senate will vote on another judicial nomination on Monday.

The Senate is expected to convene at 3 p.m. for leader remarks. A vote on LaShann Moutique DeArcy Hall’s nomination to be a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of New York is expected at 5:30 p.m.
