GOP senators use Clinton against ObamaCare

Senate Republicans gave speech after speech Wednesday citing former President Clinton’s words as a reason for President Obama to keep his promise on ObamaCare.

On Tuesday, Clinton said Obama should keep his promise that if someone likes their healthcare plan, they can keep it.

{mosads}“Even if it takes a change to the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got,” Clinton said.

Reports state that 3.5 million people have been told they’re insurance policy will change because of ObamaCare regulations. Republicans have used that against Obama since one of his major promises was that the public could keep the health insurance they have if they like it.

GOP Sens. Mitch McConnell (Ky.), John Thune (S.D.), Dan Coats (Ind.) and Roy Blunt (Mo.) gave floor speeches Wednesday where they cited Clinton’s remarks. They also called on the president to endorse a House bill that will receive a vote later this week.

“The president can help all of them by backing the bill the House is expected to pass Friday,” McConnell said. “I think that’s basically what Bill Clinton was suggesting yesterday when he said the president should honor the commitment the government made to these folks, even if it means changing the law.”

The House is expected to pass a bill on Friday from Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) that would let people keep their plans.

Republicans have also called for a full repeal of the healthcare law, but more and more Senate Democrats have signed onto a bill from Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) that would amend ObamaCare to let people keep insurance plans that are being canceled under the law.
