Senate swiftly returns to blame game
“President Obama and his political advisors have put out the word that they don’t want Congress to get anything done around here until after next year’s election, so the President can go around on a bus and blame Congress for the country’s problems,” said McConnell deriding Obama’s recent jobs tours he has taken on his presidential bus. “Democrats in the Senate are lining right up behind him.”
Later on Monday the Senate will likely consider Democratic and Republican jobs proposals, both of which have the the potential of attracting bipartisan support. Republicans are floating a bill to eliminate the 3 percent withholding tax on government contracts which has the support of President Obama. Democrats will attempt to attach to that a plan that would cut taxes for business that hire veterans and in particular veterans who were wounded in the wars.
Reid predicted Monday afternoon that sooner or later he would be able to convince a Republican or two to join Democrats on a jobs proposal.
“It is only a matter of time before they break and join Democrats in our efforts to create jobs and get the economy back on track,” said Reid.
