Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) warned Democrats Monday that on Election Day they wouldn’t be able to hide from the fact that the party unilaterally passed ObamaCare.
“The healthcare law has been a disaster from the start, devastating both family budgets and the economy as a whole,” Thune wrote in an op-ed for Breitbart Monday. “Every Democrat who voted for this law owes the American people an explanation. And Americans will demand one at the ballot box.”
{mosads}Democrats are defending several vulnerable Senate seats during the 2014 mid-term elections. Republicans are hoping to use the poor rollout of ObamaCare against Democrats.
“Before Democrats forced President Obama’s healthcare plan through Congress on a party-line vote, the president and Democrats promised that the bill would drive down the cost of healthcare and reduce premiums by an average of $2,500,” Thune wrote. “In fact, the average family premium has risen significantly since the law’s passage.”
Thune has been an ardent critic of the Affordable Care Act, also called ObamaCare. He wrote that the law has raised taxes, stopped businesses from hiring and forced people off insurance plans they liked.
“Five years into the Obama economy, unemployment remains at levels historically only seen during recessionary periods,” Thune wrote. “The worst possible thing we could do for these Americans is saddle businesses with new taxes and regulations that discourage hiring and expansion and encourage cutting jobs and hours.”
