Reid: ‘We stand with the people of Fort Hood’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) mourned the tragedy at Fort Hood, saying his thoughts are with the victims.

{mosads}“We have to reflect on what took place in Fort Hood yesterday — another tragedy,” Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday. “Our hearts are all broken at yet another tragedy at this military facility.”

On Wednesday, a gunman shot and killed three people before turning the gun on himself at Fort Hood in Texas. Reports said 16 other people were injured by the gunfire.

In 2009, another gunman killed 13 people and injured 31 at the same base.

“Fort Hood has seen more than its fair share of tragedy in recent years,” Reid said. “We stand with the people of Fort Hood today.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) joined Reid in his remarks, saying he was praying for the victims and thanked first responders.

“As always in a tragedy like this, we admire the courage and commitment of those who rushed to help the victims,” McConnell said. “And of course we are all thinking and praying today for the victims, their families, and their fellow soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood.”
