Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) defended Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) Monday, saying comments that she is too “emotional” was condescending.
Reid was referring to remarks former CIA director Michael Hayden made on “Fox News Sunday.”
{mosads}Hayden said the Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman might be too “emotional” to produce a fair report on the CIA’s torture tactics used under the Bush administration. Her committee voted last week to declassify and release that report after the administration reviews it.
“In responding to the Senate Intelligence Committee’s attempts to shed light on the CIA’s questionable interrogation methods, General Hayden condescendingly accused Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein of being too emotional,” Reid said on the Senate floor Monday. “Does that sound like a man that respects women? Do the Republicans sound like a party that treats women equally? So much for equality under the law.”
Reid said Democrats would prove that they’re a better party for women than Republicans by holding a vote later this week on the Paycheck Fairness Act from Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.). Her bill aims to ensure equal pay for women.
