Wednesday: WIA, HUD nominee

The House will vote on the Workforce Investment Act, which authorizes federal job training programs, and clear the measure for the president’s signature.

The Senate passed the bill 95-3 before the July 4th recess.

{mosads}Afterward, the House will begin consideration of the fiscal 2015 Energy-Water appropriations bill.

As with other appropriations bills, it will be considered under an open rule that allows members to offer unlimited amendments. Passage of the bill is not expected until Thursday.

The Senate starts at 10 a.m. and shortly after noon it will clear three of President Obama’s nominees before agreeing through voice-vote to proceed to the consideration of a bipartisan sportsmen’s bill.

Only one roll call vote is expected around noon and that will be on the nomination of Julián Castro to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The other two nominees — Darci Vetter to be Chief Agricultural Negotiator for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and William Adams to be Chairperson of the National Endowment for the Humanities — will be confirmed by voice-vote.
