McConnell demands plan from Obama on ISIS

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called on President Obama to present Congress a clear plan of attack against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“It’s time to present a strategy to Congress,” McConnell said on the Senate floor Tuesday. “He needs to identify military objectives, and explain how those ends will be accomplished.”

{mosads}McConnell suggested that Obama seek authority from Congress to use military force to protect the United States from the Islamic militant group, ISIS, which has taken over swaths of territory in the Middle East and killed two American journalists.

“The threat from [ISIS] is real and it’s growing,” McConnell said. “It’s time for President Obama to exercise some leadership in launching a response.”

Obama is expected to give a speech on Wednesday detailing his plans to combat ISIS. He has already launched targeted airstrikes and sent military advisers to Iraq.

Some lawmakers have called on Congress to formally authorize Obama to use military force before adjourning for the midterm elections in two weeks.
