Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) blasted Secretary of State John Kerry for denying there is a link between the Iran nuclear negotiations and the U.S. strategy against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“Secretary Kerry undermines his credibility and that of our nation by making such a disingenuous statement,” Corker said Saturday. “Of course the negotiations with Iran are affecting the administration’s approach to the region, especially in Syria.”
{mosads}Corker’s comments came after Kerry said nuclear negotiations stand apart from other issues, such as the fight against ISIS.
Reports recently revealed that President Obama secretly sent a letter to Iran’s supreme leader asking for his cooperation in fighting ISIS. The administration is also negotiating with several other countries on a nuclear deal with Iran to ensure it cannot produce weapons.
Corker serves as ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
