Thursday: Rebuking Obama’s immigration order, NDAA, energy nominees

The House will take a symbolic vote disapproving of President Obama’s executive order on immigration in addition to passing the defense spending bill, while the Senate continues work on nominations.

The House will vote on a bill sponsored by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) to prevent the executive branch from delaying deportations of undocumented immigrants as a response to President Obama’s unilateral action on immigration policy.

{mosads}Many conservatives who plan to vote for it acknowledge that the measure is merely symbolic.

In addition, the House will consider the conference report for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that resulted from negotiations with the Senate.

The Senate starts at 9:30 a.m. and will continue to work through the more than 100 nominations pending on the executive calendar.

At 10 a.m., the senators will vote on the confirmations of Franklin Orr to be under secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Joseph Hezir to be chief financial officer of DOE. Senators will also end debate on three judicial nominations and their confirmation votes will occur around 2 p.m.

The Senate is considering nominations while it waits for House legislation to keep the government funded past Dec. 11, to extend tax breaks for one year and to authorize defense spending.
