Senators demand Commerce stand up to Chinese market dumping
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) called on the Department of Commerce to fight unfair Chinese trade practices in the aluminum industry.
“When countries like China dump their products in the U.S. market, it threatens Ohio jobs and our workers’ ability to compete,” Brown said Wednesday.
{mosads}Brown said he led a bipartisan group of eight senators in sending a letter to Commerce Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Compliance Paul Piquado. The senators asked the administration to use its power to ensure a level playing field for aluminum extrusion manufacturers.
Brown said Chinese manufacturers are dumping their products on the U.S. market unfairly undercutting prices for U.S. manufacturers. The Commerce Department is currently investigating the situation.
“The Commerce Department owes workers a full and fair investigation,” Brown said. “That’s why I’m urging the Administration to address any harm caused to American businesses and workers.”
