Earlier Tuesday, Barr tweeted and then deleted a racist remark about Obama-era White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, saying that she was the child of the “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.”
{mosads}Hours later, ABC announced that it was canceling the show.
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey in a statement.
Barr apologized for what she called a “bad joke,” and said that she was “leaving Twitter.”
She has a history of making racist comments and pushing conspiracy theories, including about Jarrett.
Barr, and the title character of her now-canceled sitcom, are outspoken supporters of President Trump. The show’s reboot addressed issues that arise among a politically divided family and earned praise from Trump over its high ratings.
