Palin lauds ‘The Giver’

She’s been a GOP vice presidential candidate and the governor of Alaska, and now Sarah Palin’s trying her hand as a budding movie critic.

In a video posted Thursday on her recently launched eponymous online channel, Palin gives a thumbs up to the new movie “The Giver.”

{mosads}The flick, based on the 1993 children’s book by Lois Lowry and starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, hit theaters on Friday. The film centers around a character named Jonas who, according to the movie’s website, “lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless world of conformity and contentment.”

Palin offers her own description, saying the film, “depicts a society where the government has grown well beyond a nanny state.”

“This movie shows exactly where we’re headed if we don’t inject into our culture a little courage, tenacity and rebellion against a government all too eager to take away our freedom,” says Palin.

Citing the fictional character Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games,” the Fox News Channel contributor says, “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that so many big blockbuster movies have portrayed people fighting back against big government.”

Palin, 50, also gives high marks to one of “The Giver’s” Academy Award-winning stars.

“I’m really encouraged that someone like Meryl Streep, she lent her talents to a movie that so powerfully conveys truths about the way our culture is and the way it could be if we just had enough courage to fight back when we realize something is horribly wrong.”

The former TLC reality show star says she suspects she’s not the only one who would approve of the movie’s message — so would former President Reagan.

“I think ‘The Giver’ would’ve made The Gipper really proud,” Palin says.
