First lady, Funny or Die show post-‘Snackpocalypse’ world
Michelle Obama takes on America’s snacking in a new video produced by Funny or Die.
The first lady appears in “Snackpocalypse,” a satirical take on the high school zombies-nearing-the-end-of-the-world movie trailer.
{mosads}“After the war, everything changed,” says actress Chloë Moretz, 17, at the start of the three-and-a-half minute spoof. “They promised us revolution. They brought us revolution for their promise.”
The video — which seems to draw inspiration from a bevy of popular teen flicks and TV shows, including “The Hunger Games,” “Mean Girls,” and “The Walking Dead,” — was released Tuesday at the same time that many students are heading back to class and as school meal requirements that Michelle Obama lobbied for in 2010 are facing a backlash.
The new nutrition standards require more fruits and vegetables along with lower fat and sodium content in foods served at schools across the country. Schools are also required to switch to whole grain products.
In the Funny or Die feature, students are seen going gaga for junk food and rallying around a student body president candidate who promises if elected: “There will be soda in those drinking fountains, there’s going to be a pizza party everyday, there’s going to be junk food in the vending machines, and there will be free money to buy the junk food in said vending machines!”
Nearing the end of the faux film trailer, Obama is seen cozying up under a blanket on a couch watching the clip on a television set.
“Don’t you hate when trailers give away the whole movie?” she asks some pals, before biting into her movie-watching snack of choice: a carrot.
“Can we just watch ‘Frozen’ again?” Obama then quips.
The “Let’s Move!” anti-childhood obesity advocate isn’t the first West Wing resident to appear in a Funny or Die video.
President Obama famously appeared in “Between Two Ferns” while promoting his healthcare plan back in March. The segment was nominated for an Emmy Award.
