W.’s daughter registers for wrong party

Jenna Bush Hager isn’t registered in New York as a Democrat, a Republican or even an independent — she’s “mistakenly” a member of the Independence Party.

The 32-year-old daughter of former President George W. Bush and NBC News special correspondent said she meant to declare herself an independent, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the registration snafu.

{mosads}“Jenna registered to vote in New York soon after her daughter was born, and like all new moms, she was functioning on very little sleep,” NBC spokeswoman Megan Kopf Stackhouse told the paper. “She mistakenly registered for the Independence Party.”

Bush Hager gave birth to her daughter, Mila, last year.

The Daily News writes that “thousands of voters have unwittingly joined” the Independence Party, “artificially inflating its numbers and therefore its clout in New York’s political hierarchy.”

The website for the Independence party calls it “the largest third party organization in the nation.”
