Why rent when you can join the ‘couch caucus’?

House freshmen are only just arriving at the Capitol for orientation, but one soon-to-be lawmaker is already ditching the idea of renting some Washington digs in favor of joining the so-called “couch caucus.”

{mosads}Rep.-elect Mike Bost (R-Ill.) says he plans on using his office as a congressional crash pad rather than investing in nearby accommodations.

Bost tells local station WSIL-TV that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) gave him the idea: “He said the one thing you find is, if you do that, you always remember that the place in D.C. is not your home; your home is back in your district.”

Bost added, “I think that’s a pretty good theory to live by.”

Several lawmakers are known to get shut-eye in their offices. Republican Reps. Markwayne Mullin (Okla.), Doug Collins (Ga.), and Jason Chaffetz (Utah) are just a few of the House members known to have traded beds in rented apartments for office cots.
