Palin: With ‘Sniper’ criticism, Moore is ‘spitting on the graves of freedom fighters’
Sarah Palin is taking aim at “Hollywood leftists” who criticize the new movie “American Sniper,” adding to the conservative backlash against liberal filmmaker Michael Moore.
{mosads}The 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate took to her Facebook page on Monday, writing, “Hollywood leftists: while caressing shiny plastic trophies you exchange among one another while spitting on the graves of freedom fighters who allow you to do what you do, just realize the rest of America knows you’re not fit to shine Chris Kyle’s combat boots.”
In the Clint Eastwood-directed film, Bradley Cooper stars as real-life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in American military history.
The ex-Alaska governor’s comments came just days after “Fahrenheit 9/11” director Moore made headlines for a Sunday tweet in which he wrote:
My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes. And invaders r worse
— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 18, 2015
The documentarian, a favorite target among conservatives, later wrote in a Facebook post that he had never mentioned “American Sniper” in his tweet. He offered praise for Cooper’s performance, but reiterated, “I think most Americans don’t think snipers are heroes.”
“May the epic ‘American Sniper’ bring nothing but blessings to Taya and the children of this true American hero,” Palin wrote Monday of Kyle’s widow.
“Thank you Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood for respecting the United States Military,” she said, before linking to a post written by Sean Johnson, a staffer for Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), on the lawmaker’s official Facebook page.
Johnson, who describes himself as Gosar’s wounded warrior military and veteran liaison, said snipers “are some of our best men” and far from cowards.
“I hope you join me and Congressman Gosar in praying for the health and safety of all of our snipers,” Johnson said in his post, adding, “and maybe pray for Michael Moore to one day understand that his liberty to attack snipers like Chris Kyle is only possible because of these brave patriots.”
