Larry Wilmore to host Correspondents’ Association dinner
Larry Wilmore will headline next year’s White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner, the organization announced Wednesday.
{mosads}It’ll be the first time the Comedy Central “Nightly Show” host will appear as the entertainer at the annual star-filled gala, which raises money for journalism scholarships.
“Larry’s edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he’s certainly up to the task of skewering politicians of all ideological stripes, and we don’t expect the nation’s news media to escape unscathed, either,” WHCA President Carol Lee, a Wall Street Journal correspondent, said in a statement.
There had been chatter that the “Daily Show” alumnus would be tapped for the high-profile gig. ITK reported earlier this month that a “Nightly Show” intern claimed in a tweet that Wilmore had announced his WHCA duties during a taping of his show. Lee denied the move at the time, saying the group “had not signed a contract with anyone to headline the dinner.”
The Washington dinner, traditionally attended by the president and first lady, will be held on April 30.
