President Underwood kicks campaign into high gear

Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) may have some competition in their battle for the Democratic White House nomination — from Frank Underwood.

{mosads}The corrupt and devious president in Netflix’s “House of Cards,” played by Kevin Spacey, dropped a 2016 campaign-style ad during Tuesday night’s GOP presidential debate on CNN.

“It’s a new day in America,” a narrator announces in the 30-second promo. “Today, more people will go to work, return home to their families and sleep more soundly than ever before — all because one man refuses to settle, putting people before politics.

“That man is Frank Underwood.”

As some uplifting background music abruptly comes to a halt, Underwood, a former Democratic House Majority Whip, is seen sitting at his desk in the Oval Office. He says directly to the camera: “America, I’m only getting started.”

The series also launched an FU2016.com “campaign” page, touting the fictional character’s reelection bid. On the site, a quote from Underwood declares, “I have no patience for useless things — like political gridlock and stagnation. And neither should you.”

The fourth season of “House of Cards” premieres March 4.
