Dem celebs split on Clinton’s chances
PHILADELPHIA — Elizabeth Banks thinks the odds are more than in Hillary Clinton’s favor come November, saying the Democratic presidential nominee has a “100 percent chance of winning.”
“Why shouldn’t we be that confident?” the “Hunger Games” actress said to ITK when we pressed her on why she was so sure of a Clinton win.
{mosads}“We have an amazing candidate who’s more qualified than anyone who’s run any year that I can remember — and I’ve been around for four decades,” Banks, 42, said when we caught up with her this week at an event hosted by the Creative Coalition, an arts advocacy group.
Banks, who emceed the second night of the Democratic National Convention here and lampooned Donald Trump with a dramatic entrance inspired by his at the Republican National Convention, continued of Clinton, “She’s up against someone that I think is very divisive and wrong for our country.”
“I don’t feel the passion for anything other than winning out of the Trump campaign,” Banks, director of “Pitch Perfect 2,” said.
While Banks expressed confidence in a Clinton win, other celebrities and supporters of the former secretary of State admit they’re not so sure she’ll become president.
Noting he’s an actor and not a statistician, Josh Gad of “Frozen” fame said, “What I do know is that there’s a very real chance that she could lose unless people get their acts together.”
“I actually think it’s going to be a lot closer than people think,” Kevin McHale of “Glee” told us. “On a daily basis I have a lot of friends who support Hillary or whoever the Democratic ticket was going to be, they’re like, ‘Oh it’s going to be fine. T there’s no way Trump can win.’ ”
“That’s the problem,” McHale said. “Everybody’s vote is going to matter in this election.”
“It’s been such an odd election season,” said “Newsroom” star Alison Pill. “If the professionals don’t know, I doubt that I have more of an instinct for it,” the Canadian-born actress said of Clinton’s chances. She then reconsidered for a moment before adding, “I definitely think it’s going to be close.”
