‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’ to feature Trump-like character
NBC’s “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” will air an episode featuring a Donald Trump-like character less than two weeks before Election Day.
{mosads}The episode, titled “Unstoppable,” features “a wealthy and boorish man who makes a run for the White House,” according to Variety. His campaign is endangered as several women step forward with harmful accusations.
The plot is said to be inspired by a pending civil lawsuit against Trump by a woman who says the Republican presidential nominee raped her in the 1990s, Variety reported.
The Trump-like character will be played by actor Gary Cole, who has experience in political shows playing White House strategist Kent Davison in HBO’s “Veep.”
Although the episode was scheduled to air on Oct. 12, NBC postponed it until Oct. 26. The episode also went through numerous plot adjustments and storyline changes to the surprise of many writers and actors on the show, according to the report.
NBC also has a long history of doing business with Trump. For years, the network aired “The Apprentice,” “Celebrity Apprentice” and even had co-ownership of Trump’s “Miss Universe” beauty pageant.
The network got enmeshed in a Trump controversy last week when leaked tapes from 2005 were revealed that featured Trump explicitly describing groping women. The tapes came from outtakes from NBC show “Access Hollywood” and featured NBC personality Billy Bush, who is now a “Today” show host.
