“Saturday Night Live” host Dave Chappelle is comparing the reaction to Donald Trump’s shocking presidential win with the murder acquittal of O.J. Simpson.
{mosads}“I didn’t know that Donald Trump was going to win the election,” the comedian said at the start of his monologue.
“I did suspect it. It seemed like [Democratic nominee] Hillary [Clinton] was doing well in the polls. And yet, I know the whites. You guys aren’t as full of surprises as you used to be.”
“America’s done it, “ he added. “We’ve actually elected an internet troll as our president.”
Chappelle then shifted to the reaction to Trump’s win.
“The whites were furious. I’ve never seen anything like it. I haven’t seen white people this mad since the O.J. trial.”
“I’m not saying I’m enjoying it,” he added. “I’m just saying I’ve just never seen it before.
“I watched a white riot in Portland, Ore., on television the other night. The news said they did a million dollars in damage. Every black person who was watching was like, ‘Amateurs.’ “
Chappelle said he’s staying out of the controversy, however.
“Just gonna take a knee like [San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin] Kaepernick and let the whites figure this out amongst themselves,” he said.
