Elton John will not be playing at Donald Trump’s inauguration, a representative for the singer-songwriter said Wednesday, despite claims from an adviser to the president-elect.
{mosads}“Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration,” the rep told the New York Post.
Anthony Scaramucci, a vice chair of the presidential inaugural committee, claimed Tuesday that John would play on the National Mall for the inauguration in January.
John endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump during the 2016 race, however, and headlined fundraisers for the Democratic presidential nominee as recently as last month.
The British musician also seemingly panned Trump’s candidacy during an Oct. 13 performance on Clinton’s behalf.
“We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian,” he said in Beverly Hills, Calif., adding Clinton embodies “equality, decency, kindness and respect.”
“She is, without a doubt, the only candidate supremely qualified to lead this great nation in these challenging times,” he said at the time.
